Skills to cover in the shop
- Pass the Shop Safety Exam at 90% or higher before working in the shop
- Locate first aid kit and CPR-related aids
- Keep bench areas clean and organized after every class
- Identify common tools by name and location
- Name the major parts of a bicycle
Key procedures / notes
- Spend one day on safety standards and SDS sheets; day two for the safety exam and corrections.
- Spend 1–2 days organizing benches and tool accountability systems.
- Spend a full day (and revisit often) on bike part names until they become second nature.
Students must pass the Safety exam at ≥90% before being allowed to work in the shop. Weekly thorough shop cleaning is recommended.
